"Teach Me Thy Way, O Lord"
By Harold Stoddard

Psalm 86:11 -- "Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name."

ADAM AND EVE -- Genesis 3.
As soon as Adam and Eve sinned, they knew that they had become guilty before God. They formed a plan to hide themselves from their Maker and they made themselves aprons of fig leaves...Genesis 3:7, and when they heard God walking in the garden in the cool of the day they hid themselves among the trees of the garden...Genesis 3:8. So began man's effort to justify himself before an Holy God. As you know, their system failed, but God in His Grace and Mercy provided a Better Way for them.

CAIN AND ABEL -- Genesis 4:1-5.
It came to pass as time went on that Cain and Abel brought their offerings to the Lord. Abel brought a blood offering as they had been taught by God's example ...Genesis 3:21; but Cain had a "way" of his own -- He was a farmer and brought the best that he had, for he reasoned as many folks do today, that Surely "God will accept my good works in providing from my field the best that I have grown"..."Surely God will accept my "way" -- it seems to me to be good enough -- even better than Abel's way...Genesis 4:3.
There are many ways folks use today that to them seem to be right. they think surely they will be accepted by our Holy and Righteous God -- but in the end they are rejected, and as Cain was to discover, the end thereof is death... Proverbs 14:12 -- "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

TOWER OF BABEL -- Genesis 11:1-9.
Now comes a more sophisticated system. As time went on folks came from the east into the plain of Shinar and decided to have a more formal religious system, thinking surely God would approve of their efforts to worship together and would honor their good works. So there in Shinar we see the first organized religion, and men by their own good works sought to please God. While man's effort to please God became more formal and more organized it was still based on men's efforts to please God by their own good works -- and so it goes on today. Whether personal, national or denominational, it still remains the ways of man, and as repeated in Proverbs 16:25, "...the end therof are the ways of death".

NOT OUTWARD WORKS -- Titus 3:5, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
Somehow it seems to the natural man that an aHoly God must surely admire and accept the good works that are done for salvation. The sin of father Adam dwells in the veins that have given life to our body. No outward system, be it ever so good, will ever justify us before an Holy God. Our hearts will deceive us, for as Jeremiah 17:9 says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?" No outward work will ever change the heart -- and it is the HEART of man that must be changed -- for the heart is deceitful. Man looks on the outward appearance, but God sees the heart, as stated in I Samuel 16:7. Proof of the wickedness of man's heart is seen beyond any doubt.

ULTIMATE WICKEDNESS -- Revelation 20.
We read in Revelation 20:1-3, that Satan himself will be bound for a thousand years in the bottomless pit. His deceptions will not be allowed. No chance will he have then to deceive any person or nation, for he will be totally isolated from any contact with anyone.

PEACE -- Revelation 20:5,6.
During those thousand years peace will be complete on earth, for Jesus the Prince of Peace will reign supreme -- No injustice nor wrong doing will be allowed. The slightest wrong will be dealt with swiftly and finally. Those doing any wrong or refusing to do right will be taken out and be no more. For one thousand years people will live under a perfect government. Justice and peace will reign for all those years, but when Satan is finally released after the thousand years he will go out to gather an army beyond any known number. Vast hordes of people will be ready to follow this evil devil to form an army whose number is as the sand of the sea.
These folks, having lived their lifetime under a perfect and just government will be more than eager to gather together to fight against Jesus Christ and His people...Revelation 20:8. Even under these perfect conditions the deceitful heart of men will, as soon as the opportunity arises, be ready to fight and kill the One who had blessed them for 1,000 years. Luke 11:39 certainly applies here, where Jesus referred to the cleansing of the outside of the cup (outward religion) while the inside is full of ravening and wickedness.

YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN -- John 3.
The flesh cannot, nor can it ever, please God. You must be born of theSpirit of God. Forget your ways of pleasing God by your own efforts and ideas. Your ways have no power to save, and your soul will be damned forever by following the ways of man. Come to Jesus, for "Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." ...John 14:6.
It is the "inside of the cup" that must be made clean -- and only the blood of Jesus Christ is sufficient to cleanse the heart and to convict the sinful soul.
God's Way is a Person, Jesus Christ the Righteous, who died that all could live who will come unto the Father by Him. It is really true, as the song says, "Jesus' blood can make the vilest sinner clean", for He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
Jesus Christ is the kindest, greatest Person the world has ever seen; yet one day -- Perhaps Soon! -- He must, in the Plan of the Ages, come as the Lion of the tribe of Judah to make war on that which is evil.
Today is the day of salvation. Do not neglect nor delay, but Come to Jesus now.
