Of God

THE NAME OF GOD
How long has it been since you heard God's Great Name
used in a very flippant manner? it happens often these days. Jokes about
God come from our pulpits and from the people. With Abraham this was
never true. When Abraham said the Name of God, he was always referring
to and recoginzing the great Jehovah God, Creator of heaven and earth...the
One who is Sovereign in all things -- the Jehovah who provided for His
people, and crushed all His enemies. Abraham's God was Real and Mighty.
His Name was NEVER taken lightly, nor should it be.
THE PROVISION OF GOD
In Genesis 22:8 we read, "And Abraham said, My
son, God will provide Himself a Lamb for a burnt offering..."
"God will provide" ... Abraham knew without a shadow of a
doubt that it was God who provided all his needs -- protection, provision,
chastening, and whatever else he might need at any time. God's "I
will" was as sure as if it was already done. There was no DOUBT
to be placed on the promise of God. God's Word was final, His Word was
sure, and His promise would come to pass in due time. God WOULD provide
that which He had promised.
In this verse we see that "that which God promised" was HIMSELF.
"God will provide Himself", and so as we look down through
the centuries, sure enough, God it was Who hung there on the Cross to
bleed and die for the sins of many. Just as He had promised through
Abraham, it was HE HIMSELF, the Lamb that was made a burnt offering.
In Hebrews 9:26 we are told that "...now once in the end of
the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself";
and in Ephesians 5:2 we read "...Christ also has loved us and
hath given HIMSELF for us an offering and a sacrifice to God...";
and again in Hebrews 7:27, "Who needeth not daily, as those
high priests, to offer up sacrifice...for this He did once, when He
offered up Himself".
THE WORD OF GOD
In the first recorded contact with the human race, Satan
revised the Word of God. God had said to Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:17,
"...for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Satan's revision added ONLY ONE WORD..."Ye shall NOT surely
die" (Genesis 3"4). That one word deceived Eve, and joined
by Adam they brought a curse upon every person who came into the world
from that time forth.
Satan's program has never changed from that time until now. While he
has many lesser methods of deception, the revision
`of God's SURE WORD seems to be the most effective in our world today.
You may make a list of Satan's antics as you see them, but at the top
of the list should be the Revision of God's Word. As you see Satan going
about today as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8),
always remember that GOD'S PROMISES as stated in the Bible are STILL
TRUE AND SURE.
THE PROMISE OF GOD
Jesus Christ will accept every sinner who calls upon Him
in true repentance just as He has promised. The promise of salvation
is stated in many places in the New Testament; perhaps the best is this
one found in I Corinthians 15:1-4:
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached
unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
"By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached
unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
"And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according
to the scriptures."
This promise is for you and for others as well --
"For Whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Romans 10:13).
The time to be saved is NOW -- "Seek ye the Lord while He may
be found, call ye upon Him while He is near." (Isaiah 55:6).
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever."
(Hebrews 13:8).
The Name of Jesus is the greatest Name you will ever hear -- "Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a Name which is above
every name:
"That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth,
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father."
Have You called upon this Name whereby you must be saved?
If not, why not now?
